Max’s Birthday Bash

Woofies darlings!

Rubie here, keeping up on my New Year’s resolution to do more of the blogging duties for Max and I. And since he’s too modest to talk about his awesome birthday, I’m going to do it for him!

As some of you know, last week was Maxie’s birthday. Lucky 13 in fact! And what a handsome birthday boy he was! And such a spry guy for his age!

Now of course, I needed to get in on the action and so I asked Max if I could try on his hat, because I have one of those hat faces. Some girls don’t. I do. He was gracious enough to let me try it on!

Sorry Max, I look cuter in your birthday hat than you do! But I love ya! Mwah!

And speaking of in on the action, I can’t wait to help Max polish off his birthday stash. Wow! Did he get a bunch of yummies. That oughta keep us – yes US Max! What’s mine is mine, what’s yours is mine – in treats for a few weeks anyway!

I know the cards said "To Max" but that translates into "To Max AND Rubie" as far as I'm concerned! Woof!

Max got a lot of cool visitors for his birthday including his little Trumansburg girlfriend, Pearl. She came in for a slow dance and some puppy love.

My girl Pearl who told me she has a little crush on Max. Well understandably. They danced together and well there was a spark for sure. Look at me, I'm a matchmaker!

But one of the coolest visitors he got was Boomer!

Boomer loved the crackers. And I thought kangaroos liked eucalyptus. Max told me that was koala bears. Guess we'll have to wait until we get a koala in to visit to find out for sure.

Hey we always tell you to bring in your four-legged friends to hang with us! But this was quite a birthday surprise even to us! Boomer and his dad are from The Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville. They have a bunch of cool animals and are an interactive and educational park. Boomer does classroom visits. But since it was MLK Day, he had the day off and came in to wish Max a happy birthday. I was excited because kangaroos are big pugilists and I thought we could put that skill to use in keeping the poser cats in line. But Boomer didn’t feel like boxing, just munching on crackers, so the poser cats escaped retribution yet again! But I will tell you they were looking plenty nervous! Hah! I still think I’m going to hold the threat of getting their ears boxed by a kangaroo over their head anyway.

Max also got some snazzy duds to get him through the rest of the winter. Which is a good thing. He’s gotta be a sharp dressed man this weekend because it’s going to be so busy!

Isn't Max handsome in his new birthday bandana? With Dads help, I'm going to turn him into a fashion plate yet!

First of all, we’re down a few folks. Like Joe N. He’s going to Wine on Ice in Elmira this weekend with Bekah and Anne Marie! Joe’s daughter Krista says he’s going to be a thorn between two roses. Hah! But we love Joey Donut! He hands me off plenty of treats during the day, so I’m going to work much harder without him! But I bet I can get Brenda and Brendan to pick up the slack… (Hint hint!)

Around here, it’s Between the Lakes Saturday and that’s always fun. Well because there’s lots of yummy food involved! The Café goddesses are making Cheddar Leek Bread Pudding with Apple Bacon Jam! How good does that sound?? There is not ONE word in that description that I don’t personally adore! Especially cheddar and bacon! I’ve been helping taste test this all week and again, two big paws up for this one! (Also keeping to my New Year’s resolution, I’ve taken only small bites each time instead of gobbling down a whole bowl of this lusciousness at each taste testing session!)

So how does this event work? It’s a free event where you criss cross the wineries on the East side of Seneca Lake and the West side of Cayuga Lake all day. Lots of food, wine and friends. You’ll gain weight, I promise, so be good tomorrow to make room for the extra calories. (Just a little girl to girl advice.) You can get a look at all the wineries participating and what they’re serving by looking at the official MAP.

And of course, on the subject of Café deliciousness, Friday night is Pizza Nite and this is a win win for Maxie and me. In addition to the regular menu Chefs Lindsay and Jen create 3 gourmet pizzas each week for eat in or take out.

Friday night's Pizza Nite from 5-8! I promise I won't eat ALL of your pizza, just a little nibble for quality control purposes.

Now how it works best for me is if you come in Friday night to hear the band, (this Friday is the Yardvarks playing a belated birthday concert for Max from 6-8 because he adores dancing to them) and order a pizza as an appie to go with your wine. Then when you’re up dancing, well honestly I can’t be responsible. I truly may have a problem. I am just drawn to an unattended pie like a magnet to steel. I apologize in advance, but if you could follow this protocol it would be greatly appreciated!

Doesn't it look cozy up in the small barn where the bands play on Friday and Sunday? See that unattended table right in the middle? Rest assured I am NOT very far away.

And of course Sunday is brunch day from 11-3, followed by more music Sunday afternoon. This Sunday we were supposed to have the Wiles Trio, but the poor guitarist had surgery on his hand which makes it very hard to not only play guitar but also to hand me treats as I give him “The Look” so they had to postpone. So we’re going to have a last minute replacement. Brendan said we’ll post it on our Americana Vineyards Winery Facebook page when we have a band secured, so be sure to check there. One thing’s for certain, they’ll be a band you can dance to because Max loves to dance and his birthday celebration just goes on and on. (No not jealous, just saying!) So come in Sunday from 4-6 for our mystery band. And be sure to ask Max for a birthday dance. I’ll tell him he has to wear his hat!

Just had to end with another shot of handsome Max in his birthday get-up! Happy birthday big guy! Luv ya! (Oh and don't worry about the bandage on his tootsie. He had a little boo boo, but it's all better now and he'll be good to dance this weekend!_

Until the weekend my lovelies…

Woofies!
