Springin Forward!

Top o’ the evenin’ to ya lads and lassies! Max here, gettin in the spirit of St. Paddy’s Day! Woof!

I’ve got the blog today cuz Rubes is out checkin the pond for ice. She’s itchin for a swim. And quite frankly, she gets even itchier once the clocks spring forward. It’s the same thing every year. She’s more than ready for warm weather. And so am I!

Last weekend was the other first sign of spring, the Wine Trail’s annual Say Cheese event, which is where cheese lovers head out on the wine trail and try wine and cheese pairings at all the wineries.  They collect recipe cards and this year wine charms at each winery. Here was ours. Too cute right?

Well, anyway we had Muranda Cheese  here all weekend and I’ve gotta tell ya, that was a delight indeed. They have 15 types of cheese and I think Rubes and I had a nibble of each one of em! Their cheese lady was such a pushover! And Rubes AND I really worked her good! Can’t wait for them to come back. I hear thru the grapevine they’ll be here for our 4th of July Birthday Bash and I’m already countin the days!

Look at us Sayin Cheese for some cheese snax. We were workin it hard! Fear not, we scored BIG!

I’m hopin our new Twitter friends Whiskey and Rye will come down for that party too! Check it out. So you guys know we tweet right at @MaxnRubie. Well anyway, we made friends with these two chocolate labs on Twitter named Whiskey and Rye. They’re from Rochester, so not too far away, but far enough where they can’t just come over any old time. So anyway, they get telling us about their mom. She has a little project called The Collar Lab, where she makes dog collars in her spare time and donates the proceeds to a different shelter each month! Seriously how cool is that?? So we’re like you guys have to come down and we’ll figure out a way to get the collars into the winery so we can help her raise money for her cause. So while we’re trying to figure out the details, dontcha know they send me and Rubie each a beautiful collar to wear. Check them out!

If you’re thinking of getting a new collar for your pooch, you need to check out her website and get a collar for a cause. It’s www.thecollarlab.com and tells you all about her mission and has great pix of Whiskey and Rye too! She has a great story, and we love her cause, so show her some love! Plus we’re gonna have her down here at the winery soon, so you’ll get to meet her and her poochies.

Of course, Rubie’s probably going to need a new collar by summer if she keeps eating the way she has been! She’s been on a real tear and the vet told Dads she needs to be on a diet. But like a typical chick, she completely ignores the rules and eats what she wants. She just bats her eyelashes and gets everything spoon fed to her — literally! She’s already lickin her chops over Easter Brunch cuz she knows Chefs Jen and Lindsay will be bringing out the big guns for that. Oh if you’re thinking of joining us for the feast, you’ll need to make reservations by calling the Café at 607-387-6804.

Look who came to visit last weekend! Jelly Bean! He was a little early for Easter, but we loved having him!

Of course this Sunday is St. Paddy’s Day and they’re doing the traditional corned beef and cabbage. Now, me personally, not a cabbage kind of guy. But corned beef? Bring it ON! I’ll be knocking Rubie out of the way for some of that action. Of course I’ll have to be careful not to knock her over, cuz she’s getting so fat, she might not be able to get back up, and will just end up rollin around the floor of the Café like a big ball with legs. She’ll look like a big ol chocolate easter egg. Hah! I might even have to just leave her there til Easter!

Right after Easter, we’re into April already and that means Wine & Herb along the trail. That’s another popular event where everyone gets an herb for their garden at each winery. That’s a two weekend event it’s so popular! April 27-28 and May 4-5. If you’re plannin on comin to that one you should probably get your tix now. You can get em right on the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail’s website at www.cayugawinetrail.com and just click events.

Then, oh and here’s the biggie! In June we’re looking to have our book signing party!! Woof Woof!! Yup we finally got it done! It was like pulling teeth to get Rubie to sit down and finish her parts. But we finally broke down and bribed her with snax — and you know she’ll do just about anything for food — and viola! she was done. So it’s at the printers and once we get em in, were having a big party! We’re looking at early June, and don’t worry we’ll keep ya posted!

Oh and Brendan wanted me to mention another day to keep on your calendar. We’re doin a new event here in mid June. We’re hosting a Burlesque show! Haha! That’s gonna be some raucous fun! And I understand some dancin will be involved. And you know how I loves to dance! I hope I get to wear feathers or something! Rubie’s already planning her get up! She wants feathers and boas and all kinds of fancy shmancy stuff. I told her she better drop a few pounds by then or she’s just gonna look like a feather bed and people are gonna sit on her.  Hah!

Well we’ll keep you posted on the details for all that stuff, but in the meantime, we’ve got another fun weekend coming up right here and now. We’ve got one of my fave dance bands tomorrow night for our Friday Nite Pizza Party. The Tarps will be here from 6-8. They do great rock covers, and I can really get my tail shakin to them. Plus we’ll be featurin Muranda’s cheese on the pies tomorrow nite too! Yummers!

Then Sunday, St. Paddy’s Day we have a new band to go with our corned beef and cabbage. They’re called Cat’s Elbow (no relation to the poser cats around here btw) and they do a type of music called Roots and Rock. Sounds interesting right? I’ll letcha know in case you can’t make it. Anyway they’ll be here from 4-6 St. Paddy’s Day afternoon so swing by if you’re in the area.

You probably already saw this online, but we are pretty sure this is what the poser cats are up to so wanted to post it as a warning.

Plus, Joe Donuts fans, I hear we’ve got him on the road all weekend, maybe coming to a place near you! Friday he’ll be at “A Tasteful Day for HCA” from 6:30-9:30 at the Riverwalk Hotel in Binghamton and then at the Waterloo Holiday Inn from 4-7 on Saturday for the Seneca Falls Rotary’s “Chocolate Extravaganza with a Dash of Wine & a Pinch of Art!” So if you’re in the area by sure to stop in and say hi to our fave ambassador. Of course that means he won’t be here to give snax to me and Rubes this weekend, plus Brendan is out of town too, but you know we always have a “Plan B!”

Joe N. aka Joe Donut giving his best "come hither and drink wine with me" look! Look for him out and about this weekend!

Speaking of snax, I’ve gotta run. I see Rubie heading up from pond and making a beeline for the Café and I’ve gotta head her off at the pass if I have any hopes of getting her to shed that spare tire!

headingoff rubie

Woof out!
