Gettin Ready for Our Benefit Saturday!

Woof out from the winery all!

Max your TV star here! That’s right! Rubes and I have been all over the TV woofin it up about our Book Release Party & Benefit this coming Saturday at the Winery!

Yup we’ve been out on what those Hollywood types would call a press Junket! Friday we were on Bridge Street which is a morning show out of Syracuse. And then Sunday we were Weekend in CNY with Laura Hand. That show’s also out of Syracuse, so we definitely want to give a shout out to all our new friends there!

But wait til I tell ya about Friday…

So, we had to be at the studio around like quarter to 10 and it’s like an hour and a half drive from here. Now you know that that’s a bit early for her highness. She likes to sleep in a bit. But Dads convinced her she could nap in the car. So reluctantly she drags her butt into the car. I on the other hand jump in, rarin and ready to go.

So we get almost to the studio, when blammo, the car starts spittin and sputterin, shootin some rank smellin white smoke out the back. So Dads pull the car over and you can almost see the TV station, we’re so close!! But it’s across crazy Syracuse traffic. So it’s not like we can walk there. Not to mention it’s pouring out! And you know Rubie. She’s going no where in foul weather.

So Dads call the station and they were awesome! They sent their intern to pick us all up and we got there just in time for our segment with Caroline Gable and this really cool guy Eric who was fill in co-hosting. He’s a hockey player from the Syracuse Crush.

Me chattin it up with Caroline and Eric on Bridge Street while Rubie just sat there like a lump of lead. Represent big dog, represent!

So I know, you guys are thinking Rubie, the hambone, would absolutely thrive under the hot lights. Wronga-reno. They turn the lights on her and she freezes up like an ice sculpture. Hah! But guess who saved the day! Yup! Lil ol reliable me! I hammed it up for the cameras, barked a bit, nosed the book, really got the studio to stand at attention and got our Benefit some serious good play!

So the segment went great, thanks to me and no thanks to Rubie who just laid there like a sack of potatoes. But, when it was over, we had no way to get home cuz come to find out AAA will tow cars, and give people a ride, but dogs are on their own! Can you believe that? So Dads had to call a friend of ours to come get us. And she did. It was a nice ride home. I slept on Dad’s lap, but Rubie sat in the corner all pouty and big baby like, plus shed all over our chauffer’s car. How’s that for ya?

Well anyway, we get back to the winery and have to go right to work. You know it’s a holiday weekend and Rubes and I are the greeters, so there’s no rest for us. So I hop right into the job, but I turn around and Rubes is gone. She’s sitting outside in the howling wind and rain. Sulking. So of course, I need to go out and have a discussion with her about professionalism and not shirking one’s duties even in stardom. So she miserably drags herself into the winery and half heartedly puts in the rest of her shift.

Yup, this is how she road home from Syracuse Friday. The whole talk to the paw cuz I ain't listening kind of thing workin.

She was better Saturday. Greeted folks and mooched snax with her old finesse. But then of course Sunday, we had our next in-studio TV appearance bright and early and back in Syracuse. So she got all haughty and attitude-y Sunday morning too. Dads got her into the car. (I had jumped in first and barked to get her to join me, but she wasn’t listening to me at all, and I will be having a discussion with her about her attitude AFTER the Book Release Party & Benefit is over.)

And we headed off to Syracuse! We had a great time with Laura Hand and come to find out she has a dog named Rubie too. Well actually RubyShoes, and they’re gonna come down to the winery to visit us this summer! So I’m psyched about that! You know how I loves the ladies!

Well, actually I had a great time with Laura. Rubie froze up again. Hmph!

So we get back into the car, and Rubie pouted all the way home AGAIN! Dads tried to bribe her into a better mood with a piece of their burgers which she snatched out of their hands, gobbled down and went straight back to pouting. She was being so ridiculous. And of course, in all the Rubie-baby-mama-drama Dads discovered part way home that they left our big dog pictures outside the studio so we had to tweet Laura and ask her to bring em in and we’d come back and get em. Which she did. She’s such a nice lady!

We get back to the winery and get right to work. Rubes pouted for a while then got down to business (with some more bribes from friends in the Café). She headed down to the pond for a swim which seemed to snap her out of her mood. Then she was ready for the band, which was one of my faves, Purple Valley, at 4. So we definitely ended the weekend on a much better note with her than we started. Still I gotta say, Rubie needs a big fat attitude adjustment before next Saturday! We’ve got a lot riding on this. We’re helping out a lot of animals all day and she needs to bring her “A Game!”

Not all dogs (and yes even poser cats) are as lucky as me & Rubes and the guys and gals who come visit us at the winery. Help us help those less fortunate this Saturday from noon til 8 at our Book Release Party & Benefit here at the winery!

So let me give you the details for Saturday because you absolutely positively have to come and help us support our local shelters! Bring your pooches, your kids, and lots of pet food and supplies (and of course we’ll be accepting cash too), because all your donations are going to support these local shelters and rescues:
Cayuga Dog Rescue
Pet the Pet Program
Seneca County SPCA
Browncoat Cat Rescue

Plus a portion of our book sales will go to these shelters, as will a portion of sales from many of our vendors as well! And for every dollar’s worth of donations or cash you give, you’ll get a Dog-Gone Fun Ticket. The more you donate, the more tickets you’ll get which you can use for all kinds of stuff during the “Carnival” portion of the festivities from 12 to 6.

Our book! We'll be donating a portion of the proceeds to our Benefit Saturday, plus we'll be doing book signings all day!

For your pet, we’ll have a cooling station down by Rubie’s Pond, cuz it’s supposed to be some hot out. And maybe your pooches can convince Rubie to take em swimmin. I’m sure not a lot of paw twisting will be needed there. Plus we’ll have the following pet vendors on hand selling goodies for your pets (and giving a nice donation back to the cause):
The Collar Lab
Bo’s Bones
Sassy Dog Grooming Salon
Eye Catchers Pet Wear

Plus, inside, we’ll be selling small and big bags of Chef Jen’s Homemade Dog Biscuits (from the recipe she worked up for the book), commemorative glasses ($4.99 each) with our dog paws on them, and doggie t-shirts in both kids and adult sizes (again with our paw prints on them)! We’ve put our paw prints on so many things for this event, it’s sorta like as if we put our paws in cement outside of Mann’s Chinese Theatre on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Plus, we’ll be signing our book all day (well, okay, we had rubber stamps made of our paws). Listen we can’t be everywhere at once!

And don’t think we forgot the big kids! We’ll have tons for you too! Including wine tastings, great foods, local vendors like Marie’s Baklava, Jerry Dell Farm & Store (CHEESE) and Myer’s Farm Distillery, beer, wine slushies and lots of pet clinics and pet adoption info! And back-to-back bands the whole time! Yup, there will be serious music all day, and here’s the cool thing, all these artists are donating their time and talent for the Benefit! Here’s the lineup:
12:00 Immortal Jellyfish
1:00 Gary & Leeann
2:00 Tru Bleu
3:00 Cool Club of Hector
4:00 The Tarps
5:00 Purple Valley

Okay, so if you don’t want to come to the Carnival, or want to stay longer for the real Big Kid event, from 6 to 8 we’re doing a Wine & Cheese Reception with a Silent Auction. Dave Raducha will be playing for the whole thing, and they’ll be auctioning off some great great items from our very generous neighbors. And speaking of generous, the Finger Lakes Cheese Trail has donated all the artisan cheese for the event. The cost is a minimum $10 donation and that comes with a complimentary commemorative wine glass.

For a full list of everything going on that day, go to our Book Release Party Tab on Facebook. Everything there is current and up to the minute so you’ll know what to expect. But I can tell ya, dress cool cuz it’s gonna be toasty!

We’re so psyched about our book and being able to use it as a catalyst for this great benefit. We really hope you can come to the party! Don’t forget, fill up your car with the kids, the dogs and tons of donations for those animals less fortunate than us!

Until Saturday…

Woof out!
