Spooky How Fast the Summer Blew By!

Woofies all! Your Rubie here.

I know I’ve been very lax about writing this summer and Maxie simply refused to bail me out! Some big brother he is! Hmph!

But I have to be honest, I’m a pretty social girl and summer is a very social time. So I didn’t really have the time to write like I should have. Not to mention, when I did have free time, you KNOW I was in the pond swimming! And because it wasn’t that hot or sunny a summer, I had to take advantage of swimming weather when I could. You forgive me though, right?

Well, anyway let me catch you up on Max and my summer a bit! You know we had the wonderful Birthday BBQ Bash in July right? I know you know, because I saw many of you there and likely scammed some good snax from you! To which I say thank you! Plus lots of four-legged friends were in attendance and it was nice to make so many nice acquaintances and take you down to the pond for a swim with me.

The music was outstanding again this year! Max really danced his tail off all day and that’s saying something because IT. WAS. HOT!! But in the evening it did cool down a bit and the fireworks were awesome.

Over 3000 friends came to hang with us for our Birthday BBQ Bash this year! What a blast!

Speaking of four-legged friends, we had a grand showing at the winery this summer. Many newbies and lots of longtime pooches came in to visit, so I thought I’d share some of the photos with you guys!

Weirdest bird we’ve ever had come visit!

Something else happened toward the end of the summer that was very cool. The Café got reviewed in the local paper and even more people started coming in for food. And you know what that means. More people = more food = more snack scamming opportunities for moi! Oh have I eaten well this summer, but I have managed to maintain my girlish figure! Max said to tell you that maintaining my current weight requires a gross number of calories so it would be nearly impossible to GAIN weight. I told him I could if I put my mind to it and he said no doubt. He’s really being quite bratty today by the way…

Do you think snack scamming just comes naturally? Well, yes, but I'm always working on my craft. Here I am with the guys during a snack scamming practice session.

Well, just because summer officially ends this weekend, it certainly doesn’t mean things have slowed down around here. We’re already into harvest season and of course everyone comes to the Finger Lakes in the fall for the great harvest events and the beautiful foliage. The trees will be turning in a few weeks and we’re only going to get busier.

Plus we’ve got festivals and events a plenty. Like this weekend for example! I’m pretty sure Max and I are going to be running the show, because everyone else is going to be scattered all over the state! We’ve got the Finger Lakes Cork & Fork Friday and Saturday pretty near by in Seneca Falls. Saturday we’re at Boldt Castle in the Thousand Islands for their Wine Festival and Farmers Market. And we’ll also be up in the Adirondacks for the Stems & Steins Wine, Beer & Food Festival in Old Forge Saturday too. Now I’d just like to remind our travel teams, all three of these events are perfect opportunities to bring Max and I some edible souvenirs. In fact, should any of you get back here without a snickie-snack, there will be H, E, double hockey sticks to pay!

Max has been recruiting some 4-legged help for busy weekends like this. Here's his namesake (Baby Max) going over inventory. I fear he has a drinking problem though...

Around here, we’ll be putting up the fall decorations. Dads just picked up a herd of mums this week and they’re going to be gorgeous as they start to flower. Plus we’ve got a bunch of corn stalks again out on the breezeway. And I hear the hay bales are on the way! It’s always so pretty around here in the fall!

Summer's almost over, but mums the word! Hahahaha!

And before you know it, POOF, October is here! And of course you all know what happens in October around here right? Right! Our annual Hallo-Wine Spooktacular costume party. This year is the 11th year running for this crazy good time. So mark your calendars for October 26 from 8pm to midnight. Dads said I could announce the costume theme in the blog this week, so here we go…

Drum roll please…

GHOULS & GATSBY

This year, we’re having THREE categories in the costume contest. BEST GHOUL, BEST GATSBY ERA COSTUME and PEOPLES CHOICE! Each winner gets a great gift basket filled with wine and other treats from around the area! Winners are going to be announced around 10:30ish. Now, you don’t HAVE to come in costume, but you’re sure going to want to so  you can maybe win one of those baskets. That would be the bees knees wouldn’t it? (Working on my 20s terms, because you KNOW I’ll be coming as a stylish Roaring 20s flapper girl and I want to get into character now!)

Hallowine Spooktacular! October 26, from 8 til midnightish!

You should get working on your costumes too! I think Max is going to go ghoul, although I’m going to try to convince him he’d look quite dapper in one of those period newsboy caps. He complains he’s not much of a hat guy, though I tell him he just hasn’t found the right hat yet. So we’ll see, I’ve got over a month to convince him.

My friend India is always good for a costume! Remember last year she was a harlequin? (Love that she brings her pig bed with her when she comes to visit.)

Listen, I really must run. It is simply GORGEOUS out today and I must get down for a swim! I promise I’ll write more often, but I can’t let this afternoon get by me without a dip and the opportunity to smell like a wet gym sock. Max loves that so!

Before I head off, I implore you to come in and visit Max and I this weekend, since we’ll be holding down the fort! Bring your dogs. And bring us snax! Oh and don’t forget, this month we have music Friday (6-8), Sunday (4-6) AND SATURDAY (6-8) for Patriots Club Month!

September concerts Friday Sunday AND SATURDAY! And you know we'll be outside in the gazebo, weather permitting!

Til I see you face to knee caps…

Woofies my darlings!
