Spring is in the air, and it smells like bacon!

Woofies all! Your Rubie here! Just because it’s been a snowy, cold winter doesn’t mean Max & I have slowed down any! After all, we come with built in fur coats! Ha! Wish it were mink. Oops that’s not politically correct, sorry! Anyway, let me catch you up on some of the happenings around here since last we spoke.

Dads' and our friend Louie always helps out at the big events. Here he's cheffing for Mardi Gras, which was February 7-8. When he wasn't busy handing out cheese samples to the guests, he was slipping Max and I some cheesy treats under the table. LOVE this guy!

As you know Maxie just celebrated his 15th birthday a few weeks back and we threw him quite the bash to celebrate.

Max had lots of 4-legged guests come for his birthday, like Molly here. Max has a little pup-crush on her!

Max wanted me to thank all of you who made his birthday so incredibly special. He was really touched!

There were lots of 2 legged and 4-legged party goers that night.

Chef Jen made Max this cute bone-shaped birthday cake. That was for the 2-legged guests.

And she made all these doggie treats for Max, me and all his 4-legged guests! Wasn't that nice??

And of course the band they selected for the party was a swing band so Max could get his dance on! And dance he did!

A few days after that, we had another party! One of our fave visitors is Matt Stevens the weatherman from Weekend Today in CNY on NBC3 out of Syracuse. He’s not great at bringing us snax, but he does slip us treats when he’s here and he’s a super nice guy.

Plus I think it’s pretty cool his wife is a weatherwoman (girl power!) too. Anyway, Matt threw his wife a surprise birthday party here and what fun that was!

Plus he brought his dog Ralphie who became fast friends with Max, and me too.

I have to admit I have a bit of a pup-crush on him. Can’t wait for Matt and Vanessa to bring him back to visit!

And then, just this past weekend we threw ANOTHER party! Bill and Mimi are huge favorites of Max and me. Mimi always brings us goodies when she comes in and Bill gives us lots of lovins. Anyway Bill turned 79, and we had a big party for him!

It was so much fun, and there were lots of snackies slipped off the plates and into my and Max’s mouth I can assure you!

Chef Jen made Bill a birthday cake like Max's, just not in the shape of a bone. Well that makes sense.

I want to get back to our 4-legged visitors for a sec though. I am happy to see that the weather hasn’t keep them away either. Which is great because Max and I just love company! Although I will tell you, I was not so happy to see this girl snuggling up to my dad so cozy like! But you know, she was so sweet I couldn’t get too mad, just want to let her know there are some boundaries I’d rather she didn’t cross. Just a guideline for next time is all.

I realize I look a bit jealous, but she needs to remember this is MY Dad. Ease up a little sister!

Max and I both think we’ve been seeing even more 4-legged friends than ever because of the cool write up we got in the most recent issue of Wine Enthusiast. They named Americana Vineyards as the top dog friendly winery in NY which is quite exciting I must say. But even more, they called out Max and I by name!

Max & I were mentioned by name. We rule! #LabsRule

The only thing I was a tad disappointed about is that they didn’t put a picture of us in. And now that I’ve lost all this weight, I am even more photogenic than ever! And of course Max never takes a bad picture. He’s so handsome and dignified with his salt and pepper muzzle!

Speaking of noses, I’ve been smelling a lot of bacon around here lately, and doing my best to scam a little from the awesome chefs in the kitchen. Seems we’re getting ready for what I consider to be a dream event! Bacon on the Lakein! That’s right bacon, bacon, bacon. A whole weekend of bacon. Oh my stars, it’s like heaven sent down little pork angels to make my deepest wish come true!

Bacon. Say it loud and there's music playing. Say it soft, and it's almost like praying. Bacon... Hehehe -- Rubie

This heaven-sent event takes place March 21 & 22 along the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail. And here’s how it works. Each winery makes a bacon dish paired with their wine and you get to go winery to winery and sample all the bacon and wine dishes. Now obviously I don’t drink the wine, but I will be accepting all bacon handouts that weekend. As will Max. So if you’re going to the event, I implore you, please PLEASE fill a doggie bag of each winery’s bacon treats and bring them here so Max and I can enjoy the event too. We’re going to be here greeting and directing traffic so we can’t get away. (Not like Dads would put us in the car and chauffeur us from winery to winery just so we could eat bacon anyway. Believe me, I’ve asked.)

Me, directing traffic in the parking lot. See? I do earn my keep around here!

I know Chef Lindsay has created a Bacon Jam for the event, served on Chef Jen’s Cheddar Scallion scones. Which they’re pairing with a wine called Baco Noir. (Wow BacoN right in the title! Coincidence? I think not.) And how do I know that, you ask? I’ve been following that glorious bacon smell over to the Café and volunteering to eat any of the mistakes. Not exactly good for my diet, I know. But I’ll get right back on the diet wagon as soon as Bacon on the Lakein is over with. I promise!

Well I’m going to sign off now as it’s dangerously close to dinner time and I don’t want to miss that! But get in here and see Max and I soon! Of course, you can bring your two-legged family members with you. They can drink wine while you, Max and I visit!

Woofies for now!
Your Rubie
